Sealants

Sealants are recommended, and generally covered by insurance, for children under the age of 15.  Dentists recommend placing sealants as soon as the 6 and 12 year molars are present.  Sealants are used to fill in narrow grooves in a tooth that cannot be adequately cleaned by brushing. The chewing surface of the tooth has fine grooves and/or pits that accumulate plaque. These will develop cavities over time. We will brush on a coating that seals the grooves and pits so decay is prevented on the occlusal surfaces.
